5 out of 5 stars Good But Could Be Better... Much Better   January 15, 2007

Being a child of the seventies, I enjoyed this DVD very much. Yes there were many bald heads, gray hairs, some pot bellies and loud suits but the voices were all intact and the replacements of many legendary singers did excellent jobs. My only concerns was the sound quality was VERY poor. The band was always louder than the singers. Additionally, with some artists I wanted to hear more than just one song. I wanted to hear more from Heatwave than just "Always & Forever", I wanted to hear "Boogie Nights". I wanted to hear more than just "Best of My Love" from the Emotions, I wanted to also hear "Don't Ask My Neighbor". Despite this, it was very nice to see many of these groups still kicking it. Lastly, pay attention to the linear notes and watch the interviews. That was very informative. You know if someone had the "Sinbad Seventies Jams" from HBO on DVD and were selling them, I would love it. Now those were great seventies nostalgia concerts.

IF YOUR A "BABY BOOMER', THEN YOUR GONNA LOVE THIS PBS CONCERT. IT BRINGS A BUNCH OF ORIGINAL ARTISTS, SOME OF WHOM HAVEN'T SANG TOGETHER IN TWENTY YEARS. IT'S A "INSTANT PARTY' ON DVD, THAT YOU'LL BE UP DANCIN AND SINGING TOO. I WAS SO PARANOID I SCRATCH MY FIRST COPY, I ORDERED A SECOND ONE. IT'S THAT GOOD!!!!

4 out of 5 stars Not as Strong as the Other Two   October 24, 2006

Of the three PBS "Shout" recordings (correct me if there are more), this has the poorest sound and the weakest performamces. The fault could lie with the venue, an Atlantic City Casino. Still, with the exception of Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes "If You Don't Know Me By Now", which brought the house down, the rest of the show left me wishing for more emotional punch. Great selection of tunes, but the showmen didn't rise to the occaision.

The other reviewers have summed it up nicely - this is a quality, fun, and thoroughly entertaining DVD! Get this with "Old School Soul Party" and you'll have the ultimate collection of 70s soul hits!

This CD is great. It's like reliving the seventies again. I would recommend this one to all 'old school' soul lovers.
