5 out of 5 stars Teddy was Badd during his prime   April 9, 2006

Teddy Pendergrass was running things back in the day for a while. He is underrated to me because you see a Cat who had a rawness in his musical presentation, but had a voice that struck a chord. this concert shows a Artist in his prime&very much in tune with his audeince.the Chicks back in the day especially around my old hood loved them some Teddy P. the fellas respected his voice&he also had songs that were direct&to the point just as his vocal presentation.

5 out of 5 stars Teddy in his PRIME!   April 5, 2006

This is it. One of the best soul singers of all time, and arguably the last great soul man, in his prime. One word that sums up Teddy's performance is "effortless." He opens his mouth and the soulful melodies just flow. He shrugs a shoulder or reaches out his hand, and the ladies just scream. This video captures Teddy at the top of his game, and is a DVD that no fan should be without.

4 out of 5 stars Finally, the TEDDY I wanted to see!!!!   April 3, 2006

I search each week for new Music DVD's that feature OLD SCHOOL Stars in their prime. I finally got what I've been searching for. I usually can tell if I GOT THE RIGHT ONE BABY when I hear the first note from the entertainer's mouth. This one is on point!!! When Teddy, without effort, sings the opening of the song, Close The Door, all one can say is WOW!!! This man was magic on the stage. He sounds just like the recording you hear on the radio, but better. The smile, the voice and the trademark beard, now I know why the ladies throw their personals on the stage. Look close and you will see this in action. Oh, by the way, when Teddy talks to the crowd in the audience, you find yourself responding to his requests as though you are part of the show. This is one that will get played over and over again when I entertain friends and family. I'm just waiting for the next DVD with the hits that follow this one. Get this disc TODAY!!!

5 out of 5 stars Pendergrass On The Rise   April 2, 2006

This concert footage from February 1979 shows a rising virtuoso mastering song and audience as few have ever done. After leaving Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes in the mid-1970's, Teddy Pendergrass embarked on a stellar solo career that saw him become the first African American male to garner 5 consecutive platinum albums (remember albums?). His meteoric rise was cut short by a tragic car accident in March 1982 that left him confined to a wheelchair. Just before his accident, however, Pendergrass had so mastered his craft that he was widely being called the Black Elvis. Female fans of all races surrendered to his machismo. Midway between the beginning of his solo career and his accident, he entertains us with unbridled passion and a thoughtful show put together for the visual as as much as the music. The star is in fine voice as he sings a medley of hits from his days with Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes, as well as hits form his albums. He even adds a bonus track, a soulful rendition of the hit "All By Myself." For those looking to see what soul music is all about, purchase this DVD. It is to be played over and over and over again.
