5 out of 5 stars Timeless   November 13, 2004

This music sounds as ancient as the Earth, as the Universe. It reverberates with the same eternal vibrations that inhabit life. Lee Perry is at his best, and The Congos vocalizing is beyond measure. It is a perfect combination, you could listen to this album on repeat forever, and it would never grow old. You listen to this album not only with your ears, but with your soul, it is of the same iration. I have to rate it five stars, but it transcends rankings, listen and feel.

I lied....Ten Stars......this is what you will be listening as St Peter decides your fate.. and there will be no better way to go.... the vocal harmonies alone would suffice but as for the outstanding session band and the 'scratch' production.. if it takes madness to produce music like this let insanity rule. I got the original on vinyl import in 79, the Beat's 'Go Feet' uk imprint a few years later and this version in both its vinyl and cd offerings i'll take any more that float by, even have some slates with dubs of the various tracks.. almost certainly the best reggae record ever made probably one of the best 10 or 12 of any genre, these days this hogs my iPod, if it did everything the label said.. the label would be a billboard

There are not enough good things to say about this profoundly serious, HEAVY HEAVY record. The production is perfect - the vocals are otherworldly, the arrangements are brilliant - Perry's masterpiece. The Congos walked it like they talked it - they were serious committed rastas - Cedric even made Perry locks up - and this record is the testament of serious religious commitment. The album highlight is certainly Ark of the Covenant, but there are not even any average tracks. Absolutely stratospheric. The best twenty bucks I have ever spent, the highlight of my record collection.

DO NOT, however, "save money" on some crap recording made from a tape or old vinyl - buy THIS VERSION - this blood and fire reissue. As always, Blood and Fire did a phenomenal remastering job - I wish they could get the rights to Culture's back catalog.
