I promised myself I won't write another CD review, but I finally got Heart Of The Congos back, so I couldn't resist. Five biiiiigggg stars for this one.

5 out of 5 stars have to say this   June 26, 2003

This album is truly one of the most beautiful things - and that includes everything, ever - that I've come across. It's like a gift given to me by the supreme being, because this is an album of praise. Let it get inside you and expand and you will be filled with mystery and joy. I cannot overstate the effect this album has on me, particularly tracks 1, 3 and 9. These may be the best songs I have ever heard, in any genre. Get this, spread it around, live with it. Lee Perry insanity combined with heart-stoppingly beautiful vocals. A must-own, to say the least.

5 out of 5 stars A Bit of Heaven   June 12, 2003
What do we have here? The sublime vocal harmonies of the Congos, their great songs, the great musicians, and the magical sounds and otherworldly ambiance of Lee Perry's Black Ark Studio at its peak. What more could this listener want?

5 out of 5 stars 5 stars for the Best Reggae Album ever!   December 29, 2002
The winning formula: Lee Scratch's soft dub touch + Cedric Mynton's very unique falsetto (especially for reggae)+ some very heartfelt texts = the best reggae album I have ever heard. This is the real thing; the pure stuff. An absolute must for any listener of reggae, but everyone should hear this uplifting music. Very spiritual. You'll see....

5 out of 5 stars the true essence   December 22, 2002

this is the real deal. I would not lead you astray--- if you dig reggae, this is roots... full of delightfully nasty, tasty & meaty hooks. Not as sophisticated of song-writing as Bob Marley wound up putting out (not pop-friendly radio here), but definitely deep grooves with true rastaman vibration. Just a great energy on this recording--- goin' rasta style, on a hillside with a Red Stripe and...
May I also add that the packaging is as quality as I've found... totally worth the "green" to get the 2cd remastered set.
